As our owner, Dr. Donald Bishop’s son, Dr. Eric Bishop has been involved with Dr. Bishop & Associates in the background since he was quite young.
He completed his BSc in Biology at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He then went on to obtain his Doctorate of Optometry at Midwestern University’s Arizona College of Optometry. While in Arizona, Dr. Bishop organized and attended many free community vision screenings throughout the Phoenix area. While at school aside from being the Events coordinator for the on-campus Lion’s Club, Dr Bishop successfully submitted and presented two studies at the American Academy of Optometry yearly meetings. One of these studies was then published in the peer reviewed journal Optometry and Visual Performance.
Dr. Bishop also accompanied the California Lions Giving Sight on two trips to Mexico to provide free vision evaluation, ocular health care, and glasses to the local impoverished residents. In his final year of education, Dr. Bishop completed his Clinical Externships focusing in diagnostics imaging and ocular diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. During this year, Dr. Bishop attended the Veteran’s Affairs hospitals in downtown Detroit, MI and Providence, RI, Norton Sound Regional Hospital and surrounding villages in Nome AK, and a private practice in Glendale, AZ.
Dr. Bishop also fits a variety of unique and different contact lenses for all different types of eye conditions; keratoconus, grafted and irregular corneal fits along with astigmatic presbyopia. In his spare time, Dr. Eric Bishop enjoys playing guitar, jamming in a band made up of high school buddies, photography, and travelling.
