Dr. Thao Nguyen was born in Vietnam and moved to Canada when she was 7 years old. She attended the University of Calgary for her Bachelor of Science, majoring in biology.
She continued her education in Florida, where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry at NOVA Southeastern University, College of Optometry.
Dr. Nguyen completed her internship at NSU Eye Institute, where she gained experience in primary eye care, contact lens fitting, and ocular disease management. She pursued her interest in ocular diseases and gained experience in surgical co-management at Aker Kasten Eye Center and Dan and Hoffmann Eye Centers in South Florida.
During her optometric training, Dr. Nguyen volunteered for the Special Olympics Opening Eyes to provide vision screenings for young athletes with special needs.
Dr. Nguyen returned to Calgary after optometry school to pursue her career as an optometrist. She is a member of the Canadian and Alberta Association of Optometrists, and the Calgary Society of Optometrists.
In her spare time, Dr. Nguyen loves to shop, watch movies, hike, read books, and spend time with family and friends.
